Released: 16 June 2014
Producer: Johnny Mcdaid Songwriter: Ed Sheeran, Johnny Mcdaid, Foy Vance Critical Reception of the Record: Afire Love did not much of the critics attention. The critics that did review this track had only positive things to say. - “The emotional mid tempo piano tune is a dedication to Ed's grandfather, who battled with Alzheimer's for 20 years before his death last year. Sheeran reportedly finished writing the track at his grandfather's funeral. The personal song takes listeners on a heart wrenching journey as Ed recounts the moment his grandfather succumbed to the disease and no longer recognized his grandson.” Public Reception of the Record: The public loved the song, and the meaning/message behind it. It performed surprisingly well on the charts, it placed in 2nd place on the top 100 chart in Ireland, 5th place in the Europe’s digital song list, and 5th place in Sweden's top 100 charts. Why I like this Song: I enjoy listening to this song because it is unlike many of his songs, it’s about his grandfather’s death from Alzheimer's. In the song he talks about how difficult it was for him to see his grandfather no longer remember who Ed was. It has very calm beat and a very deep and meaningful message. |
